A name listed within double quotes is either a nickname or pet name.

If a person you searching for is not listed then have a look at the alternative spellings of the surname by looking at all the surnames starting with the letters .

If that fails then use the Full Name Search with just the surname .This will give you similar names as well as entries for maiden and family names.

About the names held within the GPR

This page contains a list of all the entries for the surname, maiden and family name that are held within the Gravestone Photographic Resource online database. It is quite likely that there are also entries available for alternative spellings of this name. It is very easy for you to check to see if there are any alternative spellings: you just need to look at the page that shows all the names listed under the starting letter ( in this case) of the surname you are interested in.

The name may also be found within either maiden or family names stored within the GPR.

If you click on a particular name or GPR reference number above you will see details of what information is held for that particular grave monument. If there is a high quality image available then you will be able to order a free copy of it.

If you click on a particular church, parish or town name above then you will see details of all the grave monument images that are available for that particular location.

If there is a blank in the relationship column above then it means that this person is the first named individual on the grave monument.

If you are interested in ordering a number of different images from different graves monuments, it may help if you list in grave order so that everyone mentioned on the same monument are listed together.

google ad

Please note that all ages and dates of birth listed in the above list that are shown in red have been calculated and are probably not on the monument.

You should treat the calculated dates of birth with caution as the ages given on monuments are often inaccurate. The dates and ages on many monuments are also often hard to read. It is therefore important to use the dates as guides as they may be incorrect.

The same person may appear many times in the above list. This is because a person can easily be listed on many different monuments. For instance, a person could be listed on their own grave as well as on the gravestone monuments of their children and their spouse. Occasionally names will be duplicated because the monument has in error been photographed and indexed twice.

Where a relationship is shown as unknown, this usually means that parts of the monument are illegible and relationship cannot be read.

Where no relationship is given this means that this is normally the first name on the monument. All the relationships on any particular monument relate to this first named individual.

If there is no burial date then it is likely that they are not buried at this location. Please note that the GPR records ALL names on monuments.

Thanks - a great resource

I've used this site a number of times in the course of my family tree work and it's been invaluable. I've found the gravestones of several ancestors and it's helped so much - often sending me in a sideways direction when the gravestone reveals unknown family members! Thank you.

Thank you again Charles

I just wanted to say thank you again for assisting with an image of a family burial stone. The first one you helped me with a couple years ago was of my 2nd great grandmother that helped spur me on to seek more about my family in England. I am grateful for services like this that help people see stones that are so far away.

Volunteer entering gravestones

Hello I wonder if anyone can help me as i would like to add some gravestones to the site? thanks Helen
entry submitted by H Hedley on: 05/07/2020 10:44 GMT ........ contact this person

Excellent so far

This has been a real help, but I think there should be links to other sites where photos can be found. For example: theus.org.uk/category/find-grave scottishjewishcemeteries.org/search.html Of course,it would be wonderful if more graves could be photographed. The one I found Sylvia Bellman in had only been 10% photographed.

I sure appreciate your website and all the work and efforts. It has been very helpful in researching my UK ancestry. It also provides a way to honour those from my past and see where their journey ends. Especially helpful as I live in Canada. Very grateful, Cathy.

Oldest Gravesite at Campbell’s Hill Cemetery

I was wondering if you could help us with knowing who the oldest burial site belongs to in Campbell’s Hill Cemetery? My sons & I strolled through the cemetery today admiring the beauty of the old world charm of the various gravesites of those who have left this world before us, and we were wanting to know who the first person was who was buried here? We believe it was as early as 1850? Kind regards Kerrie Cameron

Grateful thanks!

Thank you so much for this very useful and beautifully produced website. It has proved a really valuable help when researching several families both at my local church and for my own genealogical research. In one case recently it solved a mystery regarding the marriage of a couple commemorated on a family memorial in Topcliffe church but who were buried in Stockton; it transpired that when it was erected in 1860 the husband's name had been engraved wrongly on the stone - and since that time no-one had noticed! The marriage details were consequently located easily. I am hoping for further insights as a result of locating the Harrison memorials at South Warnborough. Your work is much appreciated.

Super Service

Superb Service, Superb Collection, Superb Photographs. Having a neurodegenerative medical condition I am totally wheelchair and housebound getting out to look round our many beautiful cemeteries for myself is no longer feasible. This web page has restored that ability to me and for that I am forever grateful. Please keep up the wonderful work which is rapidly becoming an important tool in the world of Family Research and when you reach that point where it becomes an impossible task, please, please pass it on to someone or some organization who will maintain it and nurture it to even greater heights. It is your wonderful legacy to the word.

Error

I've noticed what must be an error in the entry against Joanna Bowden on the monument of Annie Ley image 292, grave 324403 and thought you would like to amend it. Although the photo is unclear, Joanna Bowden cannot be Annie Ley's wife! It would seem likely a closer examination of the inscription would reveal she was mother of Annie, and / or wife of George Bowden.

Joseph and Isabelle Landau

The photographs of the graves of Joseph and Isabelle Landau (nee Poliakoff) exceeded my expectations. I had not anticipated the Greek columns and statues in a Jewish burial place, but they exhibited the extraordinary wealth of the family. Having read about Isabelle's marriage to Joseph in the diaries of her cousin Zinaida Poliakova, seeing a physical grave site made the stories all the more concrete and real. Your work is invaluable and much appreciated. Since I cannot travel to France at this time to visit the cemetery, this was the next best thing. Thank you so much for sending me these remarkable photographs.

Thank you so much for the information, it has been very helpful. My relation has now begun to know a little of his father and is to visit the cemetery soon. I wish all Scottish records were as obtainable. Out of interest, we have been told that records for Comely Bank Cemetery Edinburgh were lost in a fire. Do you know of any group that may have this information? We would like to place a headstone but do not have details of all those who occupy the plot. Incidentally, I have tried three times to post a comment but each has been rejected with no links or however long the message. If this is happening often perhaps people are unable to show how grateful they are, which is a shame. Many thanks

I am researching the WW1 fallen in Ware Herts as it is the 100 year anniversary. I have a book Our Boys -Ware and it list I think maybe all the sad young men you have for Ware. I went to the cemetery as it just around the corner with the book and found many of the graves including WW2. One that stuck out was in a village up the road to ware High Cross. A man who was called Leake and he was in the Boer War and was a surgeon and managed to get into WW2 via France. He got A VC twice and I think there is only three people that have these. I think it is a fitting tribute to be able to do this.

Am I permitted to use the photo in my book, provided I acknowledge its source? And if so, would you like to tell me how you would like this source to appear? Many thanks indeed for a fantastic service.

An invaluable resource

Thank you so much. I have been able to confirm birth & death details of my 5th great grandparents and this has meant I can trace their parents in the parish records.

Great site. I found the grave of a non-family member - with information that was very helpful to a research project.

photographs without permsission

Whilst I can see that this site may be a useful resource for people who are researching family history, I have to say that I was shocked and more than a little upset to find my parents' grave on the site. I came across the site and the image entirely by chance and, in all honesty, I feel quite angry and disappointed that someone can take a photograph of the headstone and then upload without relatives' permission

Many thanks

I would just like to say a huge thank you to all involved in this site. I have located over 70 missing memorials for my North Devon families, which is absolutely brilliant. Thanks and Merry Christmas! Phil

Cremation and info dates

Do you only record memorial / grave stones for those buried or do you include for those cremated? Also, it could be useful to know when the latest information was recorded. Wonderful site though
